Today was half marathon #3 (Hyannis Half). The weather could have been only a little worse. Actually, when my husband and I signed up for this several months ago I said “well, I’d like to do it, but not if it’s 35 degrees and raining”. Why did I say that? So yes, it could have been 35 and raining but it wasn’t. It was 41 and raining, with wind.

I was a little nervous going into today’s run because I have had a pretty low energy level for the past couple of weeks. It was bad enough that I got a blood test on Thursday and, sure enough, my thyroid level is off (I’m hypothyroid). My doctor increased my medication dose but it hasn’t kicked in yet, so I knew today would be tough – even without the lovely weather forecast (and yes mom, I cleared the run with the doctor, lol!).

As I’ve been reflecting for the past couple of weeks in my blog, it definitely helped this morning to have the accountability of both my husband and my friend and awesome running partner, Gillian. When I asked, “why are we doing this?” They both had me covered with reassurance that I’d feel awesome when I finished. They were right! This run is something that I never would have attempted in my previous non-active life (pre-nutrition system, before 3 years ago). I don’t just mean the duration of the run, obviously, but actually doing any activity that would definitely make me really uncomfortable. And yes, I was uncomfortable for the duration of the run, but it felt so great to finish! My time wasn’t my fastest, but I was expecting that with both the weather and my wonky thyroid. Overall I’m fine with my time, and my determination to take on the bad weather and get it done! Now, I’m very happy to be warm and cozy as I write this blog.

Now, on to triathlon training…
