This morning I had a really hard time getting out of bed to go to my boxing class. Warm and cozy felt so nice on a frigid morning. I knew, however, that I’d feel much better after class, so eventually, I threw off the covers and got started with my day. Well, boxing class felt so good that I stayed after and ran a mile on the treadmill. I had energy for my day and I felt great – just because I made myself take that first great step of the morning.

Admittedly, part of the reason that I was able to get out of bed on time and not bury my head under the pillow, was because of my accountability partner. My husband wanted to go to boxing today too. He’s training for the Boston Marathon but has achilles tendonitis so he’s not able to run as much as he wants to. Boxing class is such a great workout. So, no excuses.

We all need motivation. Some people have that internal drive, while others often need some external motivation. Bob’s external motivation this morning was marathon training. Mine was simply that I told him I’d go with him, so that meant I had to go.

Get your motivation any way you can. Grab a partner, or sign up for a race, get out of bed, and get started!
